Can Spurs afford to lose a striker?

Kenny Jackett has said he would happily welcome back Harry Kane at The Den, but will injury to Jermain Defoe prevent any move from taking place?

Emmanuel Adebayor is currently Tottenham’s only senior recognised striker who is fit, after Andre Villas-Boas failed to add to his frontline in January.  What’s more, the Togo international has only just returned from South Africa where he was representing his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite only being 19 years of age, Kane had been in and around Tottenham’s first team during the opening month of this year’s campaign.  Since then, he has been hampered by injury during what was supposed to be a season-long loan spell at Norwich.

Now back at White Hart Lane, the youngster may be called upon to play a vital role in Spurs’ quest to secure a Champions League place.  However, should Adebayor and Defoe reform their partnership sooner than expected, Kane may be allowed to gain more playing experience away from the club.

Having immediately impressed for England at under-17 level, the striker was called up to the under-19 side in 2010 despite being a couple of years younger than most of his new team-mates.  The step-up proved to be no problem for Kane, as he scored twice on his debut in a 6-1 win over Albania.

The second half of seasons is where Kane usually comes into form, enjoying a successful loan spell at Leyton Orient in 2011 and finding the net nine times for Millwall last year.  With Sky Sports reporting interest from the Lions, could a return to The Den be on the cards?
