Bolton favourite Gardner handed West Ham trial

If anyone had any doubts that Sam Allardyce was not trying to turn West Ham into Bolton mark two then The Mirror's report that Trotters stalwart Ricardo Gardner is currently on trial with the club should firmly quash them. Allardyce already has the likes of Kevin Nolan, Joey O'brien, Jussi Jaaskalainen, Ricardo Vaz Tez from his Reebok Stadium glory days and it seems he is now looking to sign 34-year-old Gardner to add further numbers to the reunion.
To be fair to Big Sam the club are pretty much paper thin on options at left back and Gardner does offer vast years of Premiership experience and with the transfer window shut options are at a premium, although signing a player who has been without a club since his release from Bolton at the end of last season does look a tad desperate. Particularly when you consider that the clubs problems at this position were in evidence throughout the window and nothing was done about it.
We all know that managers love to sign the players that have given them success in the past but it seems that Allardyce is taking this theory to a whole new level and who knows with the way things are going The Hammers might just be fielding out of retirement duo Jay Jay Okocha and Youri Djorkaeff come next season, whilst Kevin Davies is out of contract at the end of the season so no prizes for guessing where he might end up.
