Ronaldo contract difficulties attract United attention

Brace yourselves for the biggest will he/won’t he transfer saga of the year. According to The Daily Star there has been a breakdown in contract talks between Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid which has unsurprisingly caught the attention of Manchester United.

Ronaldo is apparently fuming that his club are refusing to negotiate a new deal with him and feels they are just using him as a cash cow. Presumably Madrid just don’t value goals like they used to.

United are the clear favourites to sign Ronaldo in the summer; the forward is constantly dropping hints that he would one day relish a return to England and his admiration for Sir Alex Ferguson is eveident. He scored 118 goals during his six seasons at Old Trafford which saw the Portugese star develop into one of the world’s best players.

Apparently United would be able to offer Ronaldo £200,000 a week in wages and even the prestigious title of ‘Global Brand Ambassador’ which sounds like exactly the meaningless kind of role David Brent would enjoy dishing out.

Talk of Ronaldo returning to United has been cranked up a notch by the coverage of their Champions League tie with Real Madrid the first leg of which saw the 28-year-old score a fantastic header in a 1-1 draw. With the second leg coming up in March, don’t expect these stories to die down anytime soon.
