      Milito happy at Inter Milan

33-year-old Argentine striker Diego Milito claims he is happy at Inter Milan. However, his future lies in doubt as speculation links him with a move back home. The striker insists he wants to see out his contract (until 2014) at Inter, and 'would stay there willingly' if the club were to give him that option.

Inter, on the other hand, may have different ideas. At 33, Milito is getting on a bit, and while he has been playing well recently (scoring in a 3-1 victory over Chievo) that in itself may be motivation for the club to sell him on and get a bit of cash for him while he's still worth something. His contribution, though, in the 2009/10 season, where he helped the side to the triple (Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Champion's League) may be a good reason for the blue half of Milan to reward the striker with an extended deal.

How often does that happen? When a club rewards a player for his contribution and loyalty to his team? Fairly often, I'd say. But in light of Frank Lampard's current predicament, perhaps 'fairly often' isn't often enough. I for one hope that Milito stays at Inter Milan. It seems like the best option for both parties. But as is the nature of these things, the best option for football isn't necessarily the option taken.
