Atletico Madrid consider David de Gea loan move?

Yet another rumour linking David de Gea with a move away from Manchester United. It seems like the Spaniard's critics are clutching at straws to find evidence of a move away from the Premier League. However – as per usual – this rumour has as little substance as most. While Atletico Madrid may very well wish to have their old shot-stopper back on loan for a season, their current on-loan keeper Courtios, shouldn't be returning home any time soon. The young Belgian has impressed since moving to Spain, and unless a deal is offered to the high-flying Atletico side, I don't see why they would feel the need to push for a move.

Courtios is very much a 'one for the future' in the eyes of parent club Chelsea. They have noted his obvious talent and have pipped him to replace Petr Cech between the sticks for years to come. They are highly interested in his development on loan in Madrid, and contact him at least once every few weeks. The Chelsea management are smart enough to realise that, despite the ex-Genk goalkeeper's obvious potential, he will get nowhere near the sort of playing time he needs with Cech in goal. So for his development to continue, it is essential for them that he stays at a top club where he can get regular playing time, i.e. Atletico Madrid. Aside from a season-ending injury to the Czech international, don't expect a loan recall from Chelsea any time soon.

On top of it all, Sir Alex Ferguson really forked out for the man who this rumour is really about – De Gea. While a loan move for the Spaniard could potentially be beneficial, it would almost certainly shatter his confidence. Also, the Scot would have to shell out for a better goalkeeper, as Lindergaard is of a similar level to De Gea – more rumours link United with a move for Begovic in the summer. Personally, I don't think Sir Alex will do that, as it will leave him with 3 goalkeepers capable of playing at the top level – none of whom will be too happy about sitting on the bench for an extended period of time. Besides, I think the young Spaniard is better than most give him credit for. He has his strengths – shot stopping, and his weaknesses, long shots or high balls from crosses. It's up to the goalkeeping coach to help him iron out these things as well, as his excellent shot stopping ability is a great foundation to build a world-class keeper on – no doubt the reason it was seen fit to buy him for so much.

So what have we learned today? Well, as with most rumours, this is another case of 'he might, but he probably won't'.
