Arsenal make Jovetic their top summer target?

After failing to secure the signature of Spain's top scorer (we are still waiting for Wenger to make up his mind about whether he was after him or not - I'm fairly sure he was) Wenger has gone back to his youth policy and picked a striker that is 23 years of age - a full 8 years younger than David Villa. The target is none other than Fiorentina's prized Stevan Jovetic (according to the Daily Mirror), who reportedly was on a shortlist of potential strikers in January that included the likes of Demba Ba and Adrian Lopez. However, the in-form striker has a market valuation of around £26.5 million, which - considering Wenger's past spending record, is unlikely to be matched.

Jovetic would be an excellent fit in an Arsenal side that is not, perhaps, lacking in striking depth, but almost certainly in terms of world class quality. When you're one-nil down away from home, who's the man the Gunners can look to to pop up and score a brace in the last 10 minutes and win the team a vital 3 points?  Their current strikers haven't necessarily been short of goals, but it must be said that Arsenal this season seem to either run rampant or struggle to score. For example, they knocked 7 past Newcastle, and then only salvaged a 1-1 draw against Southampton because of an own goal! Not forgetting that in their previous meeting, Arsenal found the back of the net 6 times. Inconsistency has been consistent, and a consistently good striker with excellent ball control would certainly be a welcome addition.

Expect Wenger to watch his, and others' situations very closely, and you know for sure that if there's an opportunity for a bargain, Wenger will be ready to pounce. Like a fat kid at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Or something to that effect.
