Southampton to rival Liverpool for Coutinho?

Liverpool have been in for Phillipe Coutinho for about as long as anyone can remember. Or most of January. Ok so it hasn't been that long, but it certainly feels like it. All parties concerned seem to be quite content in dragging their feet about the whole thing, much to the dismay of the rest of the footballing community - who seem to want something finalised more than those involved do!
But one noble club has had enough of this. Enough of this heel-dragging, foot-shuffling, time-wasting business. For the sake of the community at large (that's a lie, they probably just want the player) Southampton are rumoured to have already tabled a £10 million bid for the Brazillian playmaker, according to The Daily Telegraph . Where this £10 million came from, I'm not entirely sure. Why an aspiring young talent like Coutinho would choose Southampton over Liverpool, I - once again - am not entirely sure (however the same could be said of many, many, many QPR signings this season, and - to be frank - I'm half convinced that people are just reading the table upside-down).
Either way, it can only lead to this saga ending sooner than it would have, and I, for one, am most certainly relieved.

You better get used to it Sean Wilson - if you don't even know now. Southampton have much money and Cortese will make our club as famous as yours. In fact over the last 10 years Liverpool have become a club not much people want to support they cannot match Man U , Chelsea, Man City. The old Liverpool days are gone. Southampton will overtake your club in a few years time. So get used to it. So before you bag Southampton think about the Saints supporters.
^^^^^^^^^^ what is this guy smoking?? Southampton will never be a bigger club then Liverpool you are still fighting relagation maybe suvive one season in the PL before saying anything.
Yes, some Saints fans may get carried away but as a Saints fan myself there are a lot of positives being said by the club right now - alongside the heartless negative way we treated Nigel Adkins.
We need to focus on our relgation battle but I have to say for a team so lowly we play some mighty good football. We remain near the bottom because of our rubbish start to the season, not our recent form.
We are not bigger than Liverpool but it feels good to outplay them in the transfer market. What a laugh!
Leeds were big at one time and Sheff Wed.
Don't rest on your laurels to much. What makes you big. The Stadium ?
Man City. Newcastle, Arsenal, Villa, all bigger clubs than you then.
If it is the size of the ground your are not a big club. Also Anfield was one of
the biggest lets downs to visit. I was so looking forward to it. Old, outdated,
poor facilities and other then the Gery & the pacemakers anthem at the start no
atmosphere....even when you won 2.0
I have to say Goodison is a nicer stadium.
Football started in England and yet Barcelona are bigger than Liverpool. So its possible in business that other competitors can overtake anyone if they have the model and finance. As for what I am on - I have been a Saints fan since 1977 and we are in the best position we have ever been. Our club will be supported by many kids in the coming years. Mark these words.

James mate, I respect that you're sticking up for you club, we all would! However, while it certainly is possible for smaller clubs to overtake bigger ones, you can't possibly claim that your club is bigger until said overtaking actually happens. I assume by your first comment, you believe me to be a Liverpool fan. In actuality, I support Arsenal, and while I'd love to say that my club is bigger than, say, Barcelona or Real Madrid, that would clearly be false. I meant no offence to Southampton fans such as yourself, but facts are facts. I like Southampton, and I hope they do continue to do well and stay up in the Premiership. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment!
