David De Gea vs a ridiculous rumour

David De Gea let in a last gasp equaliser at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Contrary to popular belief, he had a good game, par his punch in the dying minutes of the game falling straight to Jermaine Defoe, who set up Clint Dempsey to make it 1-1. He's had a decent season so far, keeping 3 clean sheets and making 59 saves in 15 appearances for the club... oh, and there's that small matter of the £18 million it cost to bring the young Spaniard to Old Trafford. Anyone remember that?

Now before you quote the Carroll case to me, let's be sensible. In fact, let's be really sensible and leave Carroll out of this completely. De Gea is by no means a flop (although you could use that word to describe the way he tries to deal with long range shots and high balls. He just sort of... flops. Anyway, moving on) and SAF doesn't smash the Premier League goalkeeper transfer record (which was Craig Gordon to Sunderland from Hearts for £9 million in August of 2007, if anyone's at all interested) for a 20-year-old keeper he intends to sell in a couple of years for what would be substantially less. He is an excellent shot-stopper, and Ferguson has Anders Lindegaard to rotate with in order to give De Gea time to iron out the creases in his game... and stop flopping at crosses.

His replacements have been quoted all over the shop, with The Sun touting either Asmir Begovic or Julio Cesar as a possible replacement, while The Telegraph mentions Victor Valdes, among others. None of these are particularly solid as of yet, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this all turns out to be a ridiculous series of rumours.
