    Saints look to runaway Biglia

It would appear that the Southampton board are looking to bring in a big name transfer to get fans back on side, with The Mirror reporting that they are ready to make a move for Lucas Biglia.

The Argentine holding player is currently on strike having decided that such behaviour is the obvious way to attract potential bidders, with that in mind Southampton might just be able to secure his services given Anderlecht are likely to want rid and some of the bigger clubs who might have been interested previously are likely to be put off by his toys out the pram antics.

Now the cynics amongst you might be thinking that new boss Mauricio Pochettino will be particularly keen on Biglia given that it would at least provide him with someone to have a proper conversation with, given the lack of English he has displayed thus far. However this is at least a position that the Saints do require strengthening,  given that their current crop of midfielders don't exactly provide extensive cover to the back four. That's taking nothing away from Steve Davis and Morgan Schneiderlein, it is just that their games are not suited to laying anchor.

Should this come to fruition the Saints board will no doubt market it as them showing how big the club is becoming with the signing of Biglia, however it is worth noting that his stock has fallen since his walk out. It is one of oldest transfer window tricks in the book; to try and force a move away by refusing to train and whilst eventually it will work the player is never likely to end up at a club as big as they might have hoped.

That said, you might well say this will be to Southampton's gain given that Biglia is a quality player who without question would be a good signing, as long as they are aware that if impressive performances at St Mary's start to attract the big boys he will not be hanging around.
