Gourcuff set for Toon move

Yoan Gourcuff has revealed that he is finally set to join Newcastle as the Magpies continue their raid on Ligue 1.

Alan Pardew has already snapped up centre back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Montpellier and right back Mathieu Debuchy whilst lining up a move for Toulousse’s Moussa Sissoko, and Gourcuff looks set to be the next the next Frenchman to hop the channel to Tyneside according to BBC sport.

The 26-year-old tweeted "I need a new challenge and therefore I hope that you respect my choice. I will follow all the results of the Girondins (Bordeaux)." After scoring 14 goals already this season for Bordeaux he could be just the man to get Newcastle out of the considerable hole they find themselves in.

The magpies did miss out on long term target Loic Remy when he chose to join QPR earlier this month and the former Marseille man has already bagged a goal on the debut for the Hoops. Yann M’Vila is another Newcastle target who from Ligue 1 who could well join Harry Redknapp’s relegation scrap – now doesn’t that sound like a great TV show – although reports of Rangers scouts secretly following the Toon’s head scout Graham Carr around France are so far unfounded.
