      Macheda to leave on loan

After bursting onto the scene with his vital goals in Manchester United’s triumphant 2008/09 season which saw them pip Liverpool to the title it’s fair to say that Federico Macheda’s career hasn’t quite gone too well.

He has managed just three goals for United since in a period which has also seen disappointing loan spells at Sampdoria and QPR.

Now the Sun are reporting that Macheda will be sent to Spanish second division side Elche on loan to try and rediscover some form. Can you rediscover form if you’ve only ever scored six career goals? Perhaps discover is more apt.

Understandably Macheda has found his opportunities limited by the rather impressive options United possess in attack. A squad featuring Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck is never going to be easy for a young striker to make an impact upon.

The 21-year-old has also been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Stuttgart this week but it seems unwise for the United flop to move to another top division side after his previous failures. A move to Elche will allow him much more game time and hopefully more goals than a stint with a Bundelsiga side. United will be hoping Macheda comes back a much deadlier striker who can actually add something to their squad, or be moved on at a price, I doubt Sir Alex is holding his breath though.
