    Tottenham in talks for Negredo

Tottenham are in talks over a £12m move for Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo according to the Mirror. The president of his side, Sevilla, Jose Maria del Nido, has flown over to the UK and apparently it’s to negotiate a deal with Spurs.

AVB will be desperate for a new striker, with Emmanuel Adebayor departed to the African cup of nations and leaving Jermaine Defoe as the only senior forward. Even when Adebayor returns some new blood up front will certainly not harm Spurs chances of obtaining Champions League football next season, and Negredo could be the man to fire them even further up the table. He has a relatively impressive scoring record in La Liga and has also scored six goals in just 12 appearances for the Spanish national side.

The deal is far from sewn up however, the 27-year-olds agent has also apparently made contact with a host of other clubs including Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy also has something of a rocky relationship with Sevilla and Del Nido after the Spanish side voiced their unhappiness over the way Spurs hired their coach Juande Ramos in 2007, claiming they would not sell to them again.

This pledge is set to be forgotten even faster than Ramos himself though, with Sevilla facing financial crisis they are desperate to gain as much cash as possible from prized assets like Negredo, and if Tottenham match their valuation then Negredo will surely be on his way.

If the move does go ahead it will not be the first time an English side have benefited from the financial misfortunes of La Liga sides. Santi Cazorla would surely have been valued at more than £16m if Malaga had not been so desperate to sell, and when it comes to Swansea’s purchase of Michu for just £2m, well it already looks like the bargain of the season.
