Manchester City willing to sell Balotelli

It seems Manchester City are in rather a generous mood today. According to the Guardian they are willing to allow Mario Balotelli to leave for just £24m this month after several Italian clubs expressed an interest in the striker.

In truth this seems like a ridiculous sum, made even more ridiculous by the fact that City say they are ‘willing’ to accept such a large fee. It is the same price which Roberto Mancini paid for Balotelli three years ago and it is hardly as if the Italian has since shown the kind of consistency to justify such a huge sum. If anything the 22-year-old has proven himself to be an almost unmanageable talent. Even his supposed mentor and father figure Mancini looks to have had about enough of Balotelli following their training ground bust up last week. If City really can tempt AC Milan, or any club, to take the troubled striker off their hands at such a price it will be some piece of negotiating.

The link to Milan could be something of a no-go though. Owner Silvio Berlusconi has branded Balotelli as a “bad apple” and seemed to think his arrival would have a detrimental impact on his side’s team spirit. I can’t think why!

Whether this is the position of Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri though remains to be seen. Perhaps he will be willing to take an expensive gamble on Balotelli.
