    Sneijder close to Galatasaray move

The transfer saga which is fast becoming the longest such saga known to man looks like it’s almost done. Hurrah. That’s right, Wesley Sneijder could agree to join Turkish side Galatasaray tomorrow according to his agent, says the Independent. Phew.

The Dutch international has made just five league appearances this season for his side, Inter Milan, after publicly refusing a two million euro wage cut. The Italian giants seem about as fed up of Sneijder as we all are and are now prepared to let him go to Galatasaray for just ten Million Euros.

Quoted in the Gazzetta dello Sport, Agent Soren Lerby said: "The talks started yesterday and today a delegation from the club arrived to meet him.

"Now the decision lies with him, anything is possible in football and Turkey is fast becoming a hot destination.

"If everything goes to plan the deal will go through. We will wake up tomorrow and everything will be more clear."

Of course ten million euros is still a large amount of money, but it is nothing like the sort of sums talked about back in 2010 when Sneijder’s stock was at an all-time high and he seemed destined to join Manchester United. Fergie may well feel that he has dodged a rather expensive bullet as whilst Sneijder is obviously a talented player, he has never again hit the heights of Inter’s treble winning season when he was truly sensational. United now have a cheaper, and arguably more talented and effective, alternative in Shinji Kagawa and if Sneijder does move to Turkey he is probably missing out on his last chance to recapture his best form at one of Europe’s best sides.

There could still be one stumbling block in the 28-year-olds underwhelming move to Turkey however. Galatasaray supporters have been made aware of a 2006 film starring Sneijder’s wife, Yolanthe Cabau in which she played the role of a Turkish Muslim female who seduced a young man. Apparently the film has caused offence amongst supporters and could cause some immediate tension between fans and player.
