Young Arsenal full back on the verge of becoming national treasure

To be frank, Carl Jenkinson looked out of his depth at times last season. More than out of his depth. Yes he was a "willing runner" and "gave you everything" as the pundits always said but let's face it - at times, particularly during Arsenal's 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford, Jenkinson resembled a fish out of water, rabbit in the headlights, all the cliches you like.

So it's been a pleasant surprise that he's started the season so confidently this time out and after a rampaging performance against Manchester City last week at the Etihad, the Daily Star are reporting that Roy Hodgson is considering giving the 20-year-old a call up to the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with San Marino and Poland with first-choice right back Glen Johnson suspended and Martin Kelly, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all injured.

It has to be said that however, that against San Marino, even last season's Jenkinson would most likely shine.
