    Stop the offensive chants!

In his recent press conference Sir Alex Ferguson has called for Manchester United fans and Liverpool fans to end the ‘tasteless’ chants towards one another.

These two clubs have one of the fiercest rivalry in the English game and over the years both sets of fans have aimed hurtful chants at each other. Liverpool fans have had to endure chants about Hillsborough whilst Manchester United have received chants about the Munich air disaster in response.

Mr Ferguson has come out saying this, only a week before the two teams meet and after the recent revelations into the truth about who was to blame for the Hillsborough disaster. He believes that after what has happened, a line should be drawn under the sand and all hurtful chants should be forgotten.

The Manchester United manager went on to say “that we are two great clubs and we should understand each other’s past”. Liverpool and Manchester United have over 30 domestic trophies won between them which make them the two most successful English club teams in history.

Incidentally the match next week between the two teams is Liverpool’s first home game since the findings from the Hillsborough reports were made public. Sir Alex Ferguson feels that this event should spark a change in the way the two sets of supporters react to one another on match days.

In Thursday’s conference with Brendan Rodgers he expressed his wish that the findings from the reports would end the taunting made by idiots and hope that some respect between the two club’s histories is restored.

There is no doubt both Ferguson and Rodgers believe that a strong rivalry should remain between the two clubs as that is what makes the matches between the two sides so spectacular. However there is only so far a situation can remain a rivalry before it goes too far and becomes a case such as, idiotic children hurtling stones and rocks at one another until something tragic happens.

All true United supporters will join me in applauding the brilliant work of the Hillsborough campaigners. Of course we too have suffered our tragedies and have an understanding of your grief. You have now forced the truth of Hillsborough to come to light and I hope that you now get justice for the crimes committed by the authorities. Whilst I still hope that we thrash you on the pitch next week there must be an end to the vile chants from the few idiots who can’t see the value of life.
