      City make midfielder move

Manchester City are ready to swoop for AS Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi before the close of the transfer window.

The Premier League champions were heavily linked with a move for the Italy international in January, but any move failed to materialise.

City instead bought in team-mate David Pizarro for the remainder of the season, while De Rossi signed a new five-year deal with the Serie A giants.

However, manager Roberto Mancini remains keen on the 29-year-old and is ready to offer £20m in order to snare his top target.

Any move for the Roma star is dependent on the departure of Holland international Nigel de Jong.

The tough tackling midfielder has seen his playing time limited over the past two years following the arrival of Yaya Toure, with Inter Milan and Bayern Munich interested in the former Hamburg man.
