      Three way battle for Defoe

The fact that Tottenham Hotspur currently have only one striker on their books, it makes you wonder quite why there are so many rumours about Jermaine Defoe moving away from the club.

Another one is in the Metro today with the paper reporting that QPR, Aston Villa and Sunderland are battling it out for the striker.

Despite scoring 17 times for Spurs last season, Defoe is thought to be frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities on offer at the club, particularly given Andre Villas-Boas' preference for a 4-3-3 formation which the 29-year-old struggles to play in.

It is unlikely the striker will leave the club until a new striker is bought in at White Hart Lane with Spurs thought to be chasing Emmanuel Adebayor and Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao so watch this space really.

Aston Villa and Sunderland have both had bids turned down for Steven Fletcher as they hunt for a solution to their goals problem which Defoe could alleviate.
