      Benoit Assou-Ekotto to leave Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has sprung a surprise on his club by announcing that he could leave White Hart Lane in the summer.

Ekotto, who has been in North London since 2009, told France Football that he has an agreement in place with chairman Daniel Levy that would allow him to spring through the exit door should a bigger club come in for him.

The ever-so-blunt Cameroonian, who has made it known previously he is not the biggest fan of the sport, has made it clear he doesn’t like the Europa League, rather humorously calling it “useless”, and he wants to play in the Champions League.

With Spurs’ hopes of playing in the continent’s premier competition hinging on results this weekend and Chelsea’s fortunes in the Champions League final, Ekotto could be tempted to take up Levy on his agreement and put himself in the shop window.

The 28 year old full back has become a first-team starter at Spurs since arriving for £3.5 million from Lens three years ago, he has played every game for Spurs this season until he suffered a broken shoulder against QPR last month, and now Harry Redknapp could be at risk of losing his talented defender.

In a typically revealing interview with France football, the player admitted he could be tempted to stay if more money was made available to Redknapp at Spurs but his situation replicates his one at Lens, where he was stifled by a lack of progression at the club.

The wishes of Ekotto could be granted however, as the Daily Mail say that Redknapp expects to act “boldly” in the transfer market this summer with Eden Hazard and Jan Vertonghen, being linked to the club.
