Olsson on the 'to depart' list

“Roll up, roll up for the great Blackburn Rovers fire sale; top players at bargain basement prices. A change of financial circumstances has forced us to offload a large part of our squad and we’re passing the savings on to you” runs the fictional advert I’ve just made up for the summer’s activities at Ewood Park.

Fictional though it may be, actually what will happen is pretty much the same (sans the advert) with Premier League clubs picking at the Lancashire club’s metaphorical carcass for all it’s worth. With their owners trimming the wage bill down on a Premier League income, who knows who will make up the Blackburn playing squad come August? 11 chickens maybe?

Anyway, enough of the gloomy side of the situation, let us now focus on the clubs getting a positive out of this; yay optimism.

The Daily Mirror reports today that Martin Olsson is high on Tony Pulis’ shopping list this summer as the Stoke manager does his usual summer thing of rotating his squad, keeping it fresh and filling it with players who the phrase “he’s a big unit” fits like a good pair of jeans.

The Mirror story states that the Swedish defender will be shipped out either way after their relegation to the Championship was confirmed earlier this week.

The 23-year-old is thought to be valued in the region of £4million, funds which Pulis will raise by selling off some of his players who are frustrated at not playing enough this season.
