Peter's PR ploy for move away

Ambition in football is a funny old thing. A player has got to have it otherwise he wouldn’t be where he is now but if you express your biggest ambition and its unlikely that that ambition can be satisfied by your current club, you may be liable to some abuse from fans who regard it as disloyalty.
Thankfully, West Bromwich Albion’s Peter Odemwingie has cleverly circumnavigated this problem by expressing his ambition but also praising the club in a humble manner. Well played sir.
The story comes from the Sun today that the Albion striker wants to move away from the Baggies to a bigger club in order to win trophies which all sound rather fair; footballer has ambition, current club probably cannot meet that ambition, player wants move, if he’s good enough to get it then there we go.
Odemwingie said; “It is time for me to struggle for silverware not just for survival in the Premier League. I hope I will leave West Brom keeping warm relations with everybody. I would consider any proposals — even from Russia. But my aim is to stay in England.”
Whilst praising his current club is a good move for fan relations, saying “I would consider any proposals- even from Russia” is most likely a bad PR move that may well not ender him to fans of any potential Russian clubs interested in him who may well have a reason to dislike him anyway.
All in all, 10 out of 10 form ambition, 6 out of 10 for tactfulness of public statement for the Russian-born Nigerian striker.
