City eye up (another) flying right back

Every top team always thinks there’s room for improvement in their starting Xi, that’s the whole idea of the transfer market really. You’ve got Robin van Persie? Well, he’s no 1987 model Diego Maradona but he’ll do I guess.

Naturally with this theory, we come to Manchester City as money can buy everything (except a 1987 model Diego Maradona, yet) so everything shall indeed be bought.

Despite already having a more than handy attacking (but defensively slightly suspect)right back in the form of Micah Richards, Talksport today cite reports in Spanish newspaper Sport (I wonder what they’re MO is) that City are lining up another bid for Barcelona occasional right back Dani Alves.

Roberto Mancini has spoken already of his desire to strengthen his squad in preparation to defend their Premier League title next season and challenge in Europe too and City are reported to be offering £12m and Alexsandar Kolarov (so £13m or so, honk) for the 29-year-old Brazilian.

Attached to the story are quotes that in no way back up the main theme of the story itself but for the sake of you, the reader, deciding for yourselves (and to bulk out the word count perhaps), below is said quote.

Mancini said; “Barcelona and Real Madrid every year buy two or three players and spend a lot of money. I think for Manchester City it will be the same. We need to improve. We need to have the strength to play Champions League and Premier League.”

See, no real mention of any link to Alves there apart from the fact Barcelona are mentioned in the same paragraph as needing to improve but hey ho, there we are.
