      Michu to Man U?

Fantastic news from the Daily Mail for all you Manchester United fans concerned about your club’s lack of big money spending in recent years; you’re signing something of a journeyman Spanish midfielder for around £3m.

Perhaps that introduction should read “hilarious news from the Daily Mail for all you fans of laughing at Manchester United” but there we go. Yes, the Daily Mail today reports that United scouts have been watching Rayo Vallecano’s Michu all season and due to Rayo’s financial issues, the player will be available at a cut-price of £3m instead of the club’s original asking price of £8m.

The midfielder (in the picture accompanying the Mail story, helpfully given the caption “Michu (left) is available for a cut price fee”. In a picture with Kaka!) netted 17 goals in 39 games for Rayo last season, making him the top scoring Spanish midfielder in La Liga.

The former Real Oviedo and Celta Vigo man signed an initial deal of two years with Rayo in July of 2011 and has been a massive hit for the club in his first season, helping the Madrid-based side to survival in their first season back in La Liga.

To be fair to Manchester United, London-based agents DBW have also spoken to other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, about the player.
