Loadsa money for unwanted Sunderland striker

It says a lot about the modern game that a part time rapper is leaving a historic hotbed of football for pastures new in the Middle East; an area that really isn’t a historic (or indeed contemporary) hotbed of football. But there we go; such is the modern world in which we live in.
Having been on-loan for the majority of the season at the United Arab Emirates’ Al-Ain, aforementioned part-time rapper but full-time footballer Asamoah Gyan will join the club on a full-time deal from Sunderland this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Ghanian international has 20 goals in 20 games in all competitions in his stint so far in the UAE which, to be fair, isn’t really that impressive a record when you consider the standard of football in the region but there we go.
As a result of this form, Al-Ain will complete a permanent deal for the striker this summer with £10m going towards Sunderland’s direction in recompense in addition to the reported £6m the Wearsiders received for this loan deal this season. Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill has confirmed that the player his not in his plans for the future so a tasty 8-figure fee is a fair trade off all things considered.
And it’s not like Gyan doesn’t get anything out of the deal either as he has been on a £200,000 a week tax-free wage at Al-Ain this season (four times his Sunderland salary) with no reason to think this arrangement will not continue should a permanent deal be agreed.
So happy times all round really; Sunderland get a literal ton of money for a player they no longer need, Gyan gets enough money to roll around in and Al-Ain keep their marquee player.
