Chase hots up for Rodriguez

Every summer, there is a mass migration in English football; all of the top goal scorers from the Championship who’s club were not promoted find their way to the Premier League anyway as top flight clubs come a-knocking with lots of money.
Last year, of the top ten scorers in the Championship, three went up with their clubs (Scott Sinclair, Grant Holt and Adel Taarabt), four others (Danny Graham, Shane Long, Jay Bothroyd and Steve Morison) got moves to the Premier League in the subsequent summer transfer window.
Everton will be setting this trend earlier in the summer, according to The Sun today, as they look to snap up Burnley’s Jay Rodriguez, last year’s 11th top scorer in the Championship and this season’s 11th top scorer too with a total of 21 goals in all competitions.
The striker has just one year left on his current contract but Everton boss David Moyes will still offer £8million to secure his services to pair him with Nikica Jelavic. The reason for the higher fee is due to interest in other clubs in the player including Fulham and newly-promoted Southampton which will allow Burnley to play auctioneer for the England U-21 international.
Much like Newton’s third law of motion (the one about equal and opposite reactions to a force), for Everton to make a transfer in, there must of course be a transfer out first of all and the Sun story has this base covered. The paper suggests that Moyes will shift out England international Jack Rodwell to Chelsea to fund the Rodriguez deal.
