Dalglish takes a Luuk at de Jong

Fresh from yet another disappointing home performance where his team scored a grand total of zero goals, Kenny Dalglish will go hunting for another striker in Holland this summer according to the Sun.

Liverpool want 21-year-old striker Luuk de Jong who has netted 30 goals in 46 games for the club this season, including 23 in 28 in the Eredivisie for Steve McClaren’s FC Twente.

The Dutch international is rated at £12million which would seem rather cheap for a striker that Liverpool are targeting (honk). He is under contract at the Dutch club until 2014 but he is thought to want to leave should Twente fail to qualify for the Europa League next season.

However, Liverpool could face competition to sign the striker in the summer according to the player’s agent who says fifteen (yes, fifteen) other clubs are in the hunt for the striker. Fifteen unspecified, unnamed clubs but fifteen clubs nonetheless.

The agent in question, the lovely alliterated Luis Laros, said; Liverpool are following Luuk closely. But so are 15 other clubs. Three big clubs who played in the Champions League want to do a firm deal with Twente. We’ll see what cards we hold in a few weeks.”

We shall see indeed Mr Laros, we shall see how many clubs do come calling for de Jong this summer.
