      Wenger's confidence definition

Great news for lovers of Robin van Persie rumours complete with quotes that don’t really enlighten anybody on anything regards the future of the striker and may well be just an excuse to fill up some pages or draw in some web hits.

In the Metro, Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood has spoken of his discussions with Arsene Wenger about the future of the Dutchman at the Emirates and says that he is confident van Persie will be staying at the club.

Hil-Wood said; “We haven’t talked to Robin yet, but I spoke to Arsene (Wenger) recently He is very confident he will stay and I very much hope he will. He has had a wonderful season with us. We have had no official approaches from any other club, as far as I am aware.'

Whether or not this was the same brand of confidence Wenger felt about the likelihood of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira (to name but four) staying at Arsenal in summers past, Hill-Wood did not specify.

As well all are very much aware of, van Persie’s contract expires in 2013, he won’t discuss a new deal until the end of the season (that’s Sunday for those keeping count at home), there is interest from Juventus and Manchester City at the very least and Champions League football will be a must to keep the player.

More, somewhere, tomorrow, probably and regrettably.
