    Clubs eye up Collins

It must be annoying when you’re a professional footballer, to barely begin packing the bags in order to jet out on the summer holidays after a season of hard work, and some doubt creeps in over where you will be employed when you come back.

That is the situation facing James Collins according to Sky Sports, as a whole host of Championship and League One clubs chase the Shrewsbury Town striker who faces some concern over his contract.

Collins has just come off a potent campaign in which he has found the onion bag 16 times, firing the Blue and Amber to second place in League Two, but the 21 year old has yet to put pen to paper on an extension at Greenhous Meadow.

The Shrews offered their top scorer Collins a new deal just 6 days ago according to the Shropshire Star, a fundamental practice for manager Graham Turner, in order to guarantee some compensation should he leave as the Republic of Ireland under-21 star is under the age of 24.

Sky Sports are now naming Watford, Sheffield United and Coventry as keen admirers of the former Aston Villa centre-forward and with some uncertainty hanging over the youngster; they could be able to get the 6 footer on a cut price deal.

Collins, who scored the goal against Dagenham and Redbridge that sealed Salop’s promotion from League Two, had previously told the Star that he was willing to stay in Shropshire to help Shrewsbury in their campaign in the lofty reaches of League One next season.

We all know such talk is cheap in football however, and with Collins unwilling as yet to put pen to paper on his long-term future, one prying club may just land him for a price just as cheap.
