Spurs and the bigger boys from the other schools

Do you remember back at school when you finally reached the final year and you were the biggest kid in the playground? All you laid your eyes one was your domain. And then each and every day you left school and bumped into an even bigger kid from a school across the park from yours who would downsize you a little bit.
Basically what I’m saying is that, in the world of football, the first kid is Spurs and the second kid, if this rumour is to be believed, is Real Madrid. Spurs have established themselves towards the top of the Premier League tree these last few years but now that they’ve got there, they’ve found there is a whole bigger world of other big, mysterious, European clubs out there who could pounce on them and take their lunch money/star players.
Thus, we come to the Daily Star’s rumour today that Real Madrid are interested in flying Spurs right-back Kyle Walker and believe £16.5million will be enough to persuade the White Hart Lane club to let him go.
Walker has had a breakthrough season this year, turning in consistent impressive performances for Spurs and making his England debut. After his performance against the Spanish U21s last summer, the Spanish press dubbed him the new Roberto Carlos, according to the Star. Except he’s right footed of course. And doesn’t claim to be a master free-kick taker.
Any who, Jose Mourinho (who may or may not be leaving Madrid in the summer anyway) has decided that Alvaro Arbeloa isn’t the man to fill the right back spot at the Bernabéu and has set his sights on the Premier League to solve that problem.
He has also sounded out Liverpool right back Glen Johnson as another potential replacement which might well signify the dearth of top quality right backs out there right now if two English ones are the top targets of probably the second best team on the planet.
For the record, in the situation set out in the opening paragraph of this piece, Liverpool are the kid in the playground who was big and aggressive at first but as other kids got wiser, older and stronger, he has slowly faded into the background. Ah metaphors.

Metaphor nearly worked ... better than I could do.
Don't think the transfer fee will work.
