Ward to be Jewell of Ipswich crown?

Ipswich Town manager, Paul Jewell, has indicated that he may resurrect a deal for Portsmouth midfielder Joel Ward.

The Scouse boss had confirmed that he had been in negotiations with parties representing Ward last week, but was unable to agree anything before Thursday's loan window had shut.

Had it not been for Pompey demolishing Birmingham City 4-1 at Fratton Park on Tuesday, the 47 believes he may have got his man.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times Jewell said: 'We spoke with Joel on Sunday and the agent said that if Portsmouth got a result on Tuesday, they would probably keep the squad in the hope of getting out of trouble'.

'That is something we might look at long-term for next season'.

The Englishman, Ward, has played 88 games for the South Coast side, netting 5 times.
