      Owls bring in Jones

League One outfit Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the appointment of former Cardiff City manager Dave Jones after the controversial sacking of Gary Megson earlier this week.

Megson had guided the Owls to third in the table following a weekend derby win over Sheffield United before new owner Milan Mandaric took the decision to axe the former Bolton Wanderers boss.

Jones had been instilled as the overwhelming favourite to succeed the 52-year-old since the news broke and the new Wednesday manager has penned a three-and-a-half year deal with the South Yorkshire side.

"Promotion is the first ambition and from there is to try and get to the Holy Grail, which is the Premiership," he said.

"I've had a lot of calls asking why I have dropped down to League One but I don't see it that way. I look at the size of the club and think this is a club that can go places.

"After talking to the chairman and seeing what he wanted and what his plans are, I had no hesitation in choosing here because it is a huge club that should not be where it is now."
