    No Loyalty for Lawrence

    What a difference 48 hours make. On Wednesday Liam Lawrence was giving it the old loyal man act to his beleaguered Portsmouth employees, on Friday he was rolling up at Cardiff on a loan deal until the end of the season.

    Lawrence’s words to the Portsmouth Herald on Wednesday would be a good source of entertainment for fans of a good puzzle, as they try to figure out what is wrong with the comments bearing in mind he would become a Cardiff player barely five minutes afterwards.

    The midfielder said "I came to this club to try to help it get up the league and get back in the Premier League, that's why I've stayed," going on to wow the Herald with sound bites such as;

    "I'm not fed up with the club; I'm fed up with what's happened to the club. I haven't ever felt like leaving and that's the truth” and this old chestnut;

    "I don't want to go anywhere and I don't want the club to fold”, all comments taken from an interview that was published on Wednesday evening.

    Here we are then, on Friday evening with Lawrence being confirmed as a Cardiff player on the Bluebird’s website, with a temporary contract that will run until the end of the season. Portsmouth are in administration and have been forced to offload Erik Huseklepp to relieve the wage bill and now Lawrence, who doesn’t want to go anywhere remember, follows the Norwegian up the Frogmore Road.

    The 30 year old winger Lawrence has Premier League experience having played for Stoke and Sunderland in the top tier, so he will be a great boost to Malky Mackay’s and Cardiff’s promotion charge as they lie 6th in the Championship.

    Lawrence had made fifty six appearances for Portsmouth, scoring eight goals, in a spell spanning two years at Fratton Park. But with finances becoming as tight as a duck’s hatband on the South Coast, they have had to let their prized winger go to relieve some duty off the wage bill.

    But remember, Liam Lawrence wanted to stay at Portsmouth. He didn’t feel like leaving. That’s the truth.
