      Taylor set for Lions emergency

Milwall look all set to make an unusual signing in the form of an emergency goalkeeper who doesn’t go by the name of Mart Poom.

Rolling up at the New Den in a car with a “Goalkeeper” daubed on the bonnet and some sirens taped to the roof (in an effort to show just how much of an emergency the situation actually is) will be Maik Taylor.

The Milwall official website, have now confirmed the deal and added a story about goalkeepers being tall into the mix.

Taylor, who signed for Leeds back in November but has yet to start a game at Elland Road, or any of the grounds Leeds have played at since November come to that, has been signed in response to the struggles of regular Lions’ keeper (and trainee sports journo) Steve Mildenhall to recover from an ankle injury.

The Millwall site also states that Taylor will provide “experienced cover and competition for David Forde” and when they say “experienced” they sure aren’t kidding.

The 40 year-old, in addition to 88 caps for Northern Ireland currently  providing very little space for anything else in his wardrobe, has had spells at Birmingham, Fulham, Southampton, Barnet, Farnborough Town, Basingstoke Town, Petersfield Town and even for the Army & Combined Services representative sides. All in all, Taylor has racked up nearly 600 professional appearances at domestic level in a 17-year career.

Milwall will be hoping Taylor can blow off the cobwebs in time for the visit of Championship leaders Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
