Hold the back pages, what are you talking about?

It is a volatile business, the transfer gossip speculation lark, with changes happening all the time it is easy to get lost underneath all the shag-pile of rumours that are banded about the place like an over-zealous scatter-gun, and sometimes, people can get things wrong.
That is the fate that befell the Daily Mirror on Sunday as, on top of all the rumours that surfaced over the course of the weekend, most notably Sky saying a deal was done on Friday, they broke the story that Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey would head north after the Carling Cup final to join Middlesbrough.
Nonsense! That’s what boss Tony Mowbray exclaimed to the Northern Echo a mere 9 hours after learning of the move. “I don’t know where that has come from to be honest” the tough old Yorkshire man told the newspaper in the aftermath of his sides Saturday defeat to Reading.
He went on to tell BBC Radio Teesside, "It's definitely not come from me or any of my staff, it's not a done deal, absolutely and definitely not."
The 20 year old impressed significantly in a short loan spell with Blackpool earlier in the season where he scored six goals in ten games, but had his time on the Pleasure-Beach cut short when Lucas Leiva suffered a long standing knee injury in November.
Back in Merseyside, it is not exactly like he has been extremely needed as only 6 appearances, 2 as a starter, have followed, hence the convenient rumours that he would be allowed back out on a temporary spell by Kenny Dalglish.
The Blackpool Gazette have also poured a bucket of freezing cold water on the reports, saying that his move to ‘Boro won’t be happening but if he does move, Blackpool would be his likely destination as the bald midfielder liked the tower and the sea-breezed promenade a bit too much.
"Blackpool have been assured by Liverpool that Jonjo Shelvey isn't joining Middlesbrough," reads the Gazette "'Pool have been assured they will be the first to know if Kenny Dalglish decides to allow the striker back out."
So there you go then, in some advice that is slightly contradictory and seriously un-self-serving, don’t believe everything you read in these gossip columns. It’s all lies I tell you! Jonjo Shelvey isn’t going to Middlesbrough.
