    Demba Ba heading to Chelsea?

Demba Ba’s new club looks set to become Chelsea according to the Mirror.  He looks likely to be heading in as Daniel Sturridge heads out of Stamford Bridge.

The Senegalese international striker has a buyout clause of £7 million and Chelsea are more than able to activate it, especially as they are alleged to be receiving £12 million for Sturridge.

With Ba’s already impressive Premier League goal scoring record of thirty-six goals in sixty-six games for the Uniteds West Ham and Newcastle £7 million is a bargain for someone with his predatory instincts.  He could work well as a foil for or back up to Fernando Torres at Chelsea.  Ba and he could form a formidable front line, both with different styles but a keen eye for goal.

Ba started his career in France, where he played youth team football for several sides.  After unsuccessful trials at a couple of the larger French teams he tried his luck in England and secured a one-year deal at Watford in the 2004/2005 season, he left there after the prescient Aidy Bothroyd decided he wasn’t good enough for the Hornets.  He moved back to France and made his first team debut for Rouen and went on to score twenty-two goals in his first season for them.  He arrived in England via Germany and now looks set to stay on these shores back in London.

I would be concerned signing BA. He knees are an issue, and so is his age. If we are going to replace Sturridge it makes sense to replace him with a young striker who can grow with the team, and still sign a well developed striker like Falcao in the summer. If we get BA now and Falcao later, we will have two 27 year olds and a 29 year old. Not clever!
