Wenger hoping to land Jan Huntelaar

Klaas Jan Huntelaar could be on his way to Arsenal in January says the London Evening Standard. Huntelaar has yet to sign an extension to his contract with Schalke.  A contract which is due to expire in the summer and the Bundesliga club may look to get some money for him in January rather than risk letting him go for free at the end of this season.  It is believed that £5 million will be enough to prise the 29-year-old Dutch striker from Schalke.

Huntelaar, by his standards, has had a poor season in the Bundesliga.  He has scored 5 goals in 16 league games.  Compare that to the 29 goals in 32 games he scored last season and that puts this season's haul in the shadows.  However he is still a potent marksman and his skill and experience could be of use to Arsene Wenger's side as they look to move up the league in the second half of the season.

Wenger will be hoping to find some answers in the upcoming transfer window to his side's problems this season.  But I think he's looking in the wrong place.  Arsenal can score, with 26 goals in 16 Premier League games, but for me they lack the bite and strength of a domineering central midfielder.  You can have all the finesse in the world but sometimes you just need someone to kick people.
