      Hughes looking at Genoa's Granqvist

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes, is looking at the Swedish defender Andreas Granqvist according to the Daily Mirror.  The beleagured Hughes has, to put it mildly, a problem in defense with QPR having conceeded 23 goals in 12 Premier League games.

It appears that he thinks the 27-year-old Swedish centre back is the answer.  Granqvist, who currently plays for Genoa in Serie A, is thought to be keen to move abroad and has been looked at by scouts from Liverpool and Newcastle.  It is thought that Granqvist will be available for £4.5 million and is rated as one of the top defenders in Italy.

Personally I'm not sure if a player who has been an ever-present part of a defense that has conceeded 22 goals in 13 games is the answer.  Unless of course he has been playing on his own, then that's not a bad record.

Clearly though Hughes is crying out for a defender with a calm head and an established international who has been playing in Italy would seem to fit the bill.  If Tony Fernandes does sanction the purchase it will be a huge show of faith in Hughes, that is if he lasts in the job long enough for the next transfer window to open.
