      United eye up Celtic midfielder

One of the enduring criticisms of the current Manchester United team and by extension a criticism of Sir Alex Ferguson is the way in which United's central midfielder has stagnated over the last few years.

Arguably, they haven't had an up-and-down, ball winning midfielder since Roy Keane retired but according to the Daily Mirror, Ferguson is looking to alleviate this problem by looking north of the border.

The paper reports that Ferguson sent his brother Martin, a scout at the club, to watch Celtic's Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama.

The paper adds that Martin Ferguson has seen him several times this season already and been impressed by the Kenyan.

The midfielder has impressed since joining Celtic in July 2011 for £900,000 but the Scottish club feel as if they can now get £10million for him.

United would only be willing to stretch to £7million the paper adds.
