Could Johnson return to hurt City?

Adam Johnson is set to return to the Etihad Stadium later today for Sunderland. Roberto Mancini is weary of the threat the young winger poses and therefore will ensure Johnson is closely watched throughout the match.

Roberto Mancini respects Adam Johnson and is a huge admirer of the player as he brought Johnson to City originally. However the Italian understands that Johnson was getting increasingly frustrated of starting on the bench for City and therefore both parties agreed it was best for Johnson’s career that he moved on.

Mancini outlined that for young players like Adam they need to play regularly as they are young and fit and they can only improve by playing week in and week out.

There is no doubt Adam Johnson will be closely watched as he returns to his former club this afternoon. As he may be the catalyst to the deliveries that will be provided to Stephen Fletcher who at the moment is in frightening scoring form.

Adam Johnson admits that he thought it would always be difficult to break into the City squad and claim a regular first team place. Therefore he thought it was right that he moved on to a new club and a new challenge.
