Top clubs set to be forced to give up stadiums for Rugby World Cup use

Some of the Premier League's top clubs such as Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United are set to be forced to give up their stadiums for use in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which is being held in this country. The Telegraph reports that Premier League clubs, having given their permission when the bid for the World Cup was launched in 2009 means that there is a "moral and legal obligation" for the clubs to basically ensure that their pristine surfaces will resemble my back garden by the time the RFU is done with them.

The Rugby World Cup was of course part of the government's plan to introduce a "Golden Decade of Sport" that included the Olympics, Paralympics, Rugby World Cup and Football World Cup. Perhaps they should be more careful with their "Golden" tags. The Olympics and Paralympics were always likely to be outstanding successes but the Rugby World Cup? In 2015?

Perhaps the only thing "Golden" will be the comedy that England's team will provide, certainly if it is anything like their shenanigans out in New Zealand this time last year!
