Survival of the fittest for McFadden

For James McFadden, his return to Everton from Birmingham City wasn’t a very productive one. After only 8 first team matches with the Merseyside club, McFadden was thrown into the sporting wilderness, becoming a free agent.
Despite the 29-year-old’s career being rife with injury, it looks as though Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill will give him a lifeline. O’Neill has offered the Scotsman who has been capped 48 times for his country a short term deal with the Wear side club.
The idea behind the small contract is to give McFadden an incentive to raise his fitness and brake into the Sunderland first team set up. If James is able to do this then we could see him sign a more permanent style deal to keep him with the Black Cats for a little longer.
