Liverpool go for in-form Newcastle striker

The title of this seemingly depends on what month we're in. Go back to May and there could only be one in-form Newcastle striker but with Papiss Cisse increasingly resembling a one-season wonder with every passing game, the Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool have turned their attentions to Cisse's club partner Demba Ba.

Ba is currently the Premier League's top scorer and with a release clause of £7 million, the chance for Brendan Rodgers to add more firepower to his squad, particularly with powderpuff forward Fabio Borini now on the sidelines due to injury, may be too tempting to pass on.

Perhaps Rodgers should take note however of Ba's run of form in the second half of last season, which saw him only score once after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations. With the tournament happening again this January, Liverpool better start stocking up on Ba's favourite strawberry syrup if they are to avoid similar problems.
