Blackburn target Shearer as Kean successor

Alan Shearer is prepared to pack in his punditry commitments and take over at the helm of Blackburn Rovers, the Mirror is today reporting. The Championship side are currently without a manager following the resignation of Steve Kean last week.

Rovers had targeted Tottenham Hotspur coach Tim Sherwood, but with interest in the 43-year-old cooling, the Lancashire side are now set to target Shearer. Reports now suggest the Lancashire outfit will target Shearer, who fired the club to Premiership glory back in 1995.

It would be Shearer’s second spell as manager, having spent time at Newcastle United back in 2009. However, he couldn’t help them avoid relegation and departed shortly after the season ended. The club’s owners the Venky’s will be hopeful that the presence of a big name manager will attract the fans, with figures dwindling at Ewood Park following their relegation.
