    Pardew wants double striker raid

    Newcastle United are lining up a double striker raid by bringing in Sochaux hitman Modibo Maiga and FC Twente forward Luuk de Jong in the January transfer window.

    Magpies boss Alan Pardew is desperate to add more firepower to his sqaud after failing to recruit a multi-million pound goalscorer in the summer and could sign up two to bolster competition with Demba Ba and Leon Best, who have both been in impressive form so far this campaign.

    Maiga, 24, was linked with a move to St. James' Park in the last transfer window, but the switch never materialised. The Malian international insisted that a move to England will happen, and reports last week suggested that a £7 million deal is on the horizon.

    Meanwhile, Dutch frontman de Jong, who has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool, so Pardew could face a fight to snare the Twente man.
