It’s been quite a rollercoaster season for Frank Lampard.

For the first time in a while, the Chelsea midfielder has had to deal with constant doubting from both fans and the media.

And the constant cries of ‘Fat Frank’ from opposition supporters, when clearly the man hasn’t got an ounce on him, must get on your nerves.

But alas, back he has come, rolling with the punches, countering with the odd left hook and leaving many a critic on the ropes.

After they said his England career was over and he would soon be a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge, Lampard hit a hat-trick against Bolton last month before bagging the winner in the Blues’ 1-0 win away at Blackburn on Saturday.

A clear enough indication that the 33 year-old isn’t done just yet, and has plenty more to give in Andre Villas-Boas’ engine room.

However, that hasn’t stopped the Blues being linked to a long-term replacement for the former West Ham man.

Reports claim today that Villas-Boas is lining up Ajax wonderkid Christian Eriksen, but faces competition from top-flight rivals Manchester City.

Although the word is that Chelsea have already made a bid for the 19 year-old, rumoured to be around £30m.

That’s big money for a teenager, but if you’re good enough your old enough, as the saying goes.

The Blues will certainly be hoping that’s the case, and if the youngster can do half as well as Lampard has, then they will be signing a real gem.

And he’s also very thin, so to anyone thinking of calling him ‘All you can Eat Erik’ can forget it!
