5 Defenders Who Could Replace Patrice Evra

It's never easy replacing a player that has been consistently brilliant at the club for a number of years. You get so used to seeing that player on the team sheet and what they bring to the team, the kind of things that make you go 'Wow, we're so lucky to have him'. Patrice Evra is one of those players because he combines attacking and defending excellently to make him one of a special breed of left-back. Not many can combine the two well and often a player excels in just one of the areas.

Replacing Evra: Manchester United Linked With Two Left-Backs, But What Could They Offer?

Patrice Evra is out of contract in summer so naturally speculation has been rife in the opening months of the season, especially as he continues his good form. The Frenchman's successor could be one of these two chaps, as the Express say they're watching Alex Sandro and the Daily Mail report Seville's Moreno is a target. But how do they compare?

Monaco And PSG Ready To Offer Manchester United Defender Huge Wages - Player Report

Patrice Evra had a mixed game against Cardiff this weekend - After he nodded in Manchester United's second of the fixture, he was then rooted to the spot when Peter Whittingham whipped in his free kick to which KimBo-Kyung latched onto and headed past David De Gea. However, the France international may be playing his last few months for David Moyes' side, as the Daily Star are reporting that Ligue 1 giants Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain are ready to bid big to land the left-back's services as he nears the end of his contract. But what will they be getting with their money?

Manchester United Will Sign Leighton Baines In January, But Is He The Right Option For Moyes?

So, the Mirror are reporting that it is going to finally happen. Leighton Baines will join Manchester United in January in a deal worth £16m, apparently, to reunite with his former Everton boss David Moyes and team-mate Marouane Fellaini. Although this is good news for Manchester United, I thought that I would take a closer look into the England left-back's statistics and try and pick holes in his game to see if he is a suitable addition. So here goes.

Monaco return to top flight football and intend to stay (Video)

Claudio Ranieri has guided AS Monaco back to French top flight football after a season spent languishing in the second tier. Ambitious plans are now being set out for the future development of the club, with star names such as Falcao being linked with the side from the principality. It seems a long time since Didier Deschamps took them all the way to the 2004 Champions League final and a lot has happened in the intervening years. What will the next decade have in store for the club?

Is the French influence on the Champions League fading?

With all the talk about the shift of the European centre of gravity to Germany from Spain, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Primera Liga big guns have won nothing in Europe for decades.

5 of the Premier League's greatest ever left-backs (Videos)

The left-back position is often seen as the least appealing on the field. Whether the reason for this is because it is often that the one kid from school who could kick a ball with his left foot was stuck there, whether the non-existantant glory that you get from playing there, or simply the old joke 'so-and-so is left-back - left back in the changing room', it is seen as something of a chore to play there.

The Revival of AS Monaco (video)

Just 9 years ago, AS Monaco – the French principality’s only professional team – competed in the final of Europe’s premier club competition, losing 3–0 to Jose Mourinho’s Porto. Monaco defied all the odds to reach the Champions League final, beating both Real Madrid and a Chelsea side – then managed by Monaco’s current coach Claudio Ranieri – over two legs.

Should clubs be allowed to appeal yellow cards?

It needs to be considered that every game counts. At the end of the season those 2 games a player is out for when he receives his 10th yellow card could make all the difference.

Pre-Match handshake nonsense needs to stop.

This weekend saw the shambles of the Terry-Ferdinand incident raise it's head again. It's once again made the headlines and left a bad taste in the mouth. Unbelievable really when you think that Arsenal netted 6 this weekend, Manchester United posted a further 4 and Aston Villa recorded their first league victory since the turn of the Millennium.

Finally, after 6 long seasons Sir Alex has signed a left back in the shape of 23 year old Alexander Buttner to compete with the ever-present Patrice Evra, and it looks as if the new-boy will go straight into the side for the league game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
