Tom Cleverley Believes Van Gaal Will Allow Him To Shine - Why The Midfielder Must Look To Restore His Reputation

After watching their side demolish LA Galaxy in their first game of pre-season, optimism has begun to creep back amongst Manchester United fans.  One player who is sharing that sense of optimism is Tom Cleverley.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils midfielder has talked up new manager Louis van Gaal and his plans for the future.  What Cleverley also strongly believes, however, is that he will be a part of the Dutchman’s success.

Cleverley is a player who seems to be around for a long time despite his young age of just 24.  Having first become noticed in 2009, loan spells at Leicester, Watford and Wigan preceded him eventually making his United debut in 2011.  Since then, though, it has very much been a case of mixed fortunes.

First making his mark in 2012, Cleverley would go on to win his first cap for the England first team towards the end of the year.  This was positive news for the Old Trafford faithful and a sign of the youngster’s progress from his time spent representing the under-21 side.

Featuring exactly 22 times for United in each of the last two seasons, Cleverley has been a part of both the Red Devils’ Premier League title-winning side of 2013 and the disastrous campaign the following year.  Having gone from being deemed an exciting young prospect to something of a flop, the midfielder’s comments show that he is hoping for the chance to put things right next season.
