Bony Lined Up To Replace Suarez - Why The Ivorian Could Add Firepower To The Reds' Attack

One thing Wilfried Bony has proven he can do over the last few years is score goals.  With Luis Suarez having left Anfield for Barcelona, Talksport have reported that Liverpool are considering replacing the Uruguayan’s attacking threat by signing Swansea's Ivorian striker.

Bony scored 16 goals in his debut Premier League season last campaign, netting 25 times for the Swans in all competitions.  Prior to that, he scored 30 goals for Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic and 37 goals for Vitesse in the Netherlands.  Although the top flights of those countries are by no means considered among the elite in Europe, the striker still had to prove himself capable of finding the net after leaving his homeland, and there are plenty of players who failed where he succeeded.

Despite Bony’s goals, Swansea only managed a 12th-placed finished in the Premier League last season, which was a decline from finishing ninth the previous year and their lowest position since being promoted.  A chance to move to last year’s runners up could be too good an opportunity for the 25-year-old to turn down, but with three years left on his contract his club would be able to demand a substantial fee.  It is believed that if Swansea were to sell him they would be looking for just under double the £12 million they paid Vitesse last summer.

Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert may be able to provide goals for the Reds, but beyond them there are no proven top strikers at Anfield.  Most sides like to have at least three players they know they can rely on up front, and if Bony was to move to Liverpool then Brendan Rodgers would have an impressive trio to choose from.
