Netherlands Midfielder Linked With Old Trafford Move - Why Sneijder Might Not Fit In At Manchester United

According to the Mirror, 30-year-old Galatasaray and Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has been offered to Manchester United. Having played for some of Europe’s top clubs, including Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Ajax, he could now be on his way to Old Trafford to make his debut in the Premier League.

Sneijder is well known by Louis Van Gaal due to the Dutch coach managing the Netherlands, and he might be able to try and twist his arm to get him to join the Red Devils. Sneijder has had an ok World Cup, scoring one goal and assisting two, but I think that it is fair to say he is not the same standard of player that he was whilst at Inter Millan.

Despite being a playmaker that could help the likes of Robin Van Persie score goals, if Van Gaal uses a 3-4-3 formation as he does with the Oranje he would have to fight Wayne Rooney for his preferred position.  This could cause problems, with both players too good and being paid too much to simply warm the bench.

Sneijder is starting exit his prime now at the age of 30, and this could mean that United are able get him at a relatively low price compared to three or four years ago. In my opinion, I think that Manchester United should pass up the opportunity of signing him as they will not get a long duration of top quality out of him and this would not be helpful to a team trying to put last season’s woeful performances behind them. Having said all that, Van Gaal might know how to get the best out of him, if only for a couple of seasons.
