Chelsea MUST Make Courtois Number 1 Next Season - Here's Why

Thibaut Courtois has been on loan at Spanish club Atletico Madrid for nearly three seasons and has performed superbly throughout his time in La Liga, coming of age. But at 21 years old, he still has plenty of potential and expectation to fill.

I think the time is right for him to be Chelsea’s number one. Petr Cech has had a brilliant career at the bridge and has been an integral part of their regular successes throughout the last decade.

He has not quite been the same keeper since the horrific incident at Reading, during the 2006/7 season, which affected him, as it would with any player. Cech has since worn the scrum cap head guard as a protective device, for which nobody can blame him, but I think his performances have dipped in recent seasons and more and more mistakes have crept into his game.

For me, the time has come for Chelsea to look ahead to the future and there is no doubting that Courtois is the man to be the number one, for the years to come. Chelsea do have to be careful, however.

A host of clubs around Europe are supposedly interested, should he not return to Chelsea in the summer, so to avoid selling one of the best young keeper’s in the game, they need to introduce him into the first team.
